Practice Partner Releases Practice Partner Patient Records Version 7.1 with Enhanced Internet Capabilities, Security, and Visit Documentation Capabilities

11/01/1999 Seattle, WA - Building on over a decade of experience, Practice Partner has released Version 7.1 of its popular electronic medical records system, Practice Partner Patient Records. Originally released in 1987, Practice Partner Patient Records has become one of the most prevalent EMR systems on the market, providing over 6000 physicians nationwide with an efficient alternative to the paper chart. Version 7.1 builds upon Patient Records' industry-leading Internet capabilities, security, and documentation features.

Internet:
Version 7.1 strengthens Patient Records' trend of incorporating Internet technology into the electronic medical record. Users can now directly incorporate links to web sites and HTML documents into progress notes templates, providing instant access to pertinent clinical information at the time of the visit. Utilizing Version 7.1's embedded web browser, Patient Records' knowledge base (Intranet home page) has also been improved. The knowledge base is a set of HTML files (taken from the web and saved on the local Practice Partner network) that allows users quick access to pertinent information. Included with Version 7.1 are "Practice Guidelines from the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research" and the "Guide to Clinical Preventive Services from the US Preventive Services Task Force," which provide a powerful resource for both clinical and administrative issues. In addition to the included documents, users also have the ability to copy content from the Internet and save it to the knowledge base, allowing each individual practice instant access to information they find useful.

Security:
Version 7.1 also makes important strides in maintaining the privacy and security of electronic medical records. Patient Records Version 7.1 adds fully granular security and user-defined access levels, allowing users to customize the security for each task item, including access to add, edit, view, and/or delete functions. In addition, security on lab data has been improved, allowing different groups access to results of different types of tests. These features are designed to allow IS administrators the full tool set they need to manage security.

Documentation:
Version 7.1 incorporates a number of new features that make it easier for physicians to quickly create and sign progress notes, including:

  • Pick List Enhancements: context-sensitive pick lists (called QuickText) are now easier to use. QuickText contain lists of pre-written clinical observations that allow comprehensive documentation with the click of a button. With Version 7.1, QuickText can be set up to automatically appear at specific times during documentation, and multiple QuickText items can now be inserted at once, allowing easy point-and-click documentation in progress notes.
  • Notes Editor Enhancements: enhancements to the progress notes editor include undo, redo, and over-write features. Additionally, required fields can be inserted into the template, requiring documentation in those specified fields before the note can be saved.
  • Enhanced Electronic Review Bin Features: when providers review a progress note or document from within their electronic review bin, the corresponding patient chart is automatically opened. This allows users to quickly and easily review the patient chart at the same time they review the note and/or other documentation.

"We are continually improving upon Patient Records' solid foundation. With feedback from our current users, we are able to add enhancements that make Patient Records a more powerful tool for both clinicians and administrators," states Practice Partner President Andrew Ury, M.D. "Version 7.1 is another advancement to the nation's top electronic medical record."
