06/25/2002 Seattle, WA - Andrew G. Ury, MD, a practicing physician and the President of Practice Partner, was recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year in the healthcare division for the Pacific Northwest by Ernst & Young. He received this prestigious award because of his participation in the development of electronic medical records and practice management software and the success of Practice Partner in connection with these innovations.
Ury is a graduate of Stanford Medical School and has practiced as a family physician for over 20 years. In the early 1980's Ury discovered his entrepreneurial inclinations after purchasing his first personal computer. He began to develop templates to use in his medical practice. He then began to sell the templates to other physicians and the idea of Physician Micro Systems was born.
Ury envisioned a software application that could replace the entire paper chart with an electronic version. He began development on the application in 1983 from his home. Today, Physician Micro Systems has over 85 employees and a global customer base. The company produces three applications for use in physician's offices: Practice Partner Patient Records, Practice Partner Medical Billing, and Practice Partner Appointment Scheduler.
Ury, who still practices medicine for 4-5 hours each week, has the responsibility of being the CEO, Product Manager, and Software Architect. His unique combination of product vision and business savvy has earned him this recognition as Entrepreneur of the Year.
