Web Browser Integrated into Practice Partner Patient Records verions 7.0

01/20/1999 Seattle, WA - Practice Partner announces the first integrated web browser in an electronic medical records system (EMR). Following Practice Partner's long tradition of innovative improvements to the EMR, a fully functional web browser has been integrated into Practice Partner Patient Records Version 7.0, which is the first EMR system to offer integrated access to Intranets, the Internet, and local HTML -formatted documents.

"We are extremely excited to offer this unique feature to our customers," explains Practice Partner President Andrew Ury, M.D. "By integrating a browser into Patient Records, we have opened the door for accessing HTML files directly from the EMR. This will become increasingly important as more and more clinical information becomes HTML-based." The integrated Web browser in Patient Records is a programmable embedded version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.0 and 4.0.

The integrated web browser in Patient Records Version 7.0 provides ability to harness the power of the Internet, allowing access to a variety of other information sources at the point of care and in the comfort of the office.

  • Access to the World Wide Web - The integrated Web browser in Patient Records allows physicians access to the growing number of clinical Web sites available.
  • Ability to create local sites - The integrated web browser allows practices to download HTML documents from the Internet and load them onto a central server. In doing so, users can gain access to information found on the Internet without the hassle of dialing up and connecting to the Internet. Users can also edit this information, creating a site-specific Knowledge Base that is an excellent resource for physicians and staff.
  • Access to specialized modules - Practice Partner already provides the HTML-based module Patient Education. Patient Education is a comprehensive computer-based education module that can be accessed at the point of care. With the click of a button, providers can generate handouts for patients with easy-to-read information about their specific diagnoses. "Practice Partner Patient Education is another tool to help improve patient care," states Dr. Ury. "Equipping patients with diagnosis-specific handouts can help reduce the amount of questions and anxiety patients may have."
  • Access to Intranets - The Patient Records browser also provides access to the growing number of Intranets used by MSOs, IPOs, and other organizations.

The integrated web browser in Practice Partner Patient Records is just one example of how an EMR can incorporate new technology to increase its benefit to clinicians. PMSI is continually building upon its tradition of bringing the latest technology to Practice Partner users by creating more powerful clinical and practice management tools.
